He met the man and still doesn’t know his name. It’s CALDWELL. His wife says extreme but what are heart attacks and strokes, and bypasses?

Being Vegan you CAN eat oil and nuts (WTF!?) and juice. I think Sam is talking about HIS diet from the book. But vegan is anything that is not from an animal.

Great interview, however it just shows if you go vegan from a health perspective its so easy to leave it and go back to meat, you need to come at it from a compassion point of view. He could have put on weight staying vegan just had to eat high fat vegan.

I am certain that he does not feel nearly as good or energetic as he did when on the vegan path. He is also sending his heart right back to the same place it was before. His wife kind of surprises me by calling a lifestyle that saved her husbands life without surgery to be “extremist” instead of recognizing it as a life saving lifestyle.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr. is the MAN.

He enjoyed the food, he has the money to buy the best, he felt great, he healed himself, yet, he puts his life at risk and returns to the animal products!!! ???? Is he crazy? And for those thinking of turning to veganism, please note that its now very easy and the food is amazing on a vegan diet, but please, please watch Earthings (free on youtube) to understand why we need to be vegan. Also forks over knives, what the health, cowspiracy, live and let live. P.s unless you have heart conditions etc vegan do have oil, nuts, seeds, pastas, etc. X

He was never a vegan. He was a plant-eater. Veganism is beyond food choices. It’s a lifestyle based on belief that animals are not here for us to use and exploit.

What happened to the clot in his leg? Did I miss the update on that?

There are vegan body buildets and strongmen who win competitions so you dont have to become a meat eater to have massive muscle gains.

Great interview CC. It would also be interesting to know if he solved this issue in the artery in his leg. In Esselstyn’s book there is a before and after shot. It shows an artery before the vegan diet and after about a year on the diet. Before the artery is clogged, after it is totally cleaned out. So I hope Mr. Jackson cleaned out his arteries a little and I hope in going back to eating animal products he’s doing it a little more carefully. It would have been nice to hear his views on the ethical and environmental aspects of eating animal products. Thanks for posting.

Well, he himself said it, the no-oil diet is a therapeutic one with a clear objective of reversing heart disease, but not absolutely necessary in a regular whole-foods plant based diet. However, if we really think about it there’s some logic not using added oils, primitive humans who had not yet thought of extracting oils from olives or seeds survived just fine and thrived. And when they did I’m sure they only extracted it in small amounts not just due to availability but because oils go rancid soon (the ones we get today are processed to retard rancidity or must be kept refrigerated, with the exception of coconut oil). So, once I thought about it that way it no longer made sense to me to add oil to everything I cook like I used to, plus oils denature once heated and past a certain temperature produce acrylates, which are toxic. I now only use a little bit when it’s necessary to enhance flavor and preferably after the food is cooked, but a lot of times I skip it altogether because it doesn’t make any difference at all.I sure hope Mr. Jackson has gone back to a vegan diet even if not as strict as before, it’s the responsible choice not just for his health, but for the animals and the planet.

The no oil is because Dr. Esselstyn is dealing with patients with hearth disease. Since there is oil in nuts, peanut butter, coconut, and avocados, he said no because these any oil prevents the reversing of the build of arterial plaques. His book on the reasons for his approach is enlightening. Vegans can be healthy or unhealthy. Vegan does mean no animal products, but healthy vegan is whole grains, plant-based, legumes, fruit without sugar, simple carbs, and any processed foods. This is what Dr. Esselstyn includes with the no oil program.

Samuel L.Jackson, you are crazy man. That’s not vegan diet. No nuts, no juice, no oils?! WTF?!
Now I suspect that stopping veganism for “tarzan” must have not been a major decision to take… Please tell me that nowadays you already know what veganism is and that it’s not only about eating…
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is
possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to,
animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.”
What you did is called “vegetarianism” , you followed a diet – and a very strict one – but that’s it. And listening to this video confirms it – never once you mention the non-human holocaust that his happening. A vegetarian can go vegetarian for animals, but a vegan WILL ALWAYS BE for the animals (humans and non humans, and the planet).
@The Curvie Cutie, please show him “earthlings”.

I wanted to hear about how it improved or eliminated his blockage. And, after he described the various positive effects of the diet, why not stick with a similar diet? I’d say his diet was a whole foods plant based very low fat medical diet. It’s good to keep oils to a minimum, get the necessary fats from nuts and seeds.

The only information I wanted was how did his clogged artery turn out. And that was never answered.
